SHIRK IS ONLY WORSHIPPING IDOLS!

A common misconception is that Shirk is limited to idol worship. Unfortunately, this is incorrect.

Examples of the different types of shirk are;

Shirk al-Ibadah (Shirk in Worship): This involves worshipping idols, saints, or any entity besides Allah.

Shirk al-Rububiyyah (Shirk in Lordship): This involves believing that creations like the sun, moon, or stars control one’s fate or hold power over Allah’s will.

Shirk in Legislation and Judgment: This involves making laws or judgments that contradict Allah’s law or obeying someone other than Allah in matters of faith.

Outward Shirk: This includes open and apparent acts of associating partners with Allah, such as worshipping idols or graves.

Hidden Shirk: This involves inwardly believing in or trusting in something or someone other than Allah, even while outwardly appearing to be a Muslim.

It is obvious that the shirk of democoracy and partaking in it is Shirk in Legislation, as Democoracy attempts to strip Allah from this right and places this right in the hands of man !!

THE FITNAH OF LIVING IN THE WEST

Fitnah – we pray to Allah that this will help us to put down the fire of this fitnah which some of those moderates and corrupted or ignorant people rise and inflame and the shaytaan with his plots gives more fire until many people suffer from it especially from those who were on the right path.

Fitnah is from people who live among the kuffar – where not just the law and order is kufr but also the people have all the signs of kufr – with prevailing signs – this has become a big fitnah and one of the most dangerous on the aqeedah of ahl us sunnah wal jammah. Living among the kuffar and saying that I can’t declare bara’a from them because I can’t be sure they are Muslim or not because I don’t see they worship idols before my eyes. Bearing in mind that we distinguish between domain of Islam and domain of kufr.

We are talking about living among people who are all kaafir and people say we can’t make bara’a from them even though you can see what prevails is kufr. We live in the second ghurbah, and we find the aqeedah of al-walaa wal baraa’a.

He says I do not declare baraa’a because I did not see them worship idols. This is a big crisis and we know that for those Muslims who live among majority kuffar without declaring baraa’a from them is really serious, how do we judge them? How should we deal with them? Some say that he hides his Imaan so he is not known anonymous – he did not show it so we can’t judge him, yet he is resident among the kuffar and yet he has no signs of Muslims. We must come out with a solution for this problem for ahl ul-Imaan for the Imaan to be increased when the shaytaan and his alliance are pushing their own corrupted ideas and casting a lot of doubts. For the Muslim to have bayyinah we must explain the truth to the people:

And remember) when you (the Muslim army) were on the near side of the valley, and they on the farther side, and the caravan on the ground lower than you. Even if you had made a mutual appointment to meet, you would certainly have failed in the appointment, but (you met) that Allâh might accomplish a matter already ordained (in His Knowledge); so that those who were to be destroyed (for their rejecting the Faith) might be destroyed after a clear evidence, and those who were to live (i.e. believers) might live after a clear evidence. And surely, Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower. [Anfal: 42]

The Messenger Muhammad stated clearly in his final address: ‘I left you after me, as long as you hold to you will never be misguided, the book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger Muhammad (saw)’

Ibn Jawziyyah said ‘you should know most of the people of madhab elevate in their hearts and follow people without to have knowledge of the Deen and this is the heart of misguidance because we should look to the saying and not to the one who is saying and he quoted Ali who said to Harith ibn Hawfin, when he said to him ‘O Ali do you think that we thought Talha and Zubair were on Baatil’ Ali said ‘O Harith you are confused, the Haq cannot be known by who is the one who said it or who is the man who carried it, know the  Haq and you will know who are its people’

You can’t just say because the sheikh said it is the Haq, no because Allah and Muhammad (saw) said.

If the Imaan is sayings and actions and he does not prevail them how do we know them.

Hamad Bin Ateeq written in the collection of tawheed in the message 23 under the title ‘clarification for the way for salvation and how you can free yourself from the murtadeen’ p298-300 said:

‘As for the topic of Izhar ud-Deen, many people think wrongly that if they can say publically loudly to themselves away from the people the kalimah and pray 5 times a day and prays jamma in the mosque and never leaves it he shows his Deen even though he is among the mushriks, this is one of the most ugly mistakes and errors, he should know the kufr has different types and divisions which have been classified and every entity of kufr and its sect has certain things which we must know and a Muslim cannot be prevail his Deen until he differs with every sect and kufr until he declares animosity to all its sects and people with whom lives i.e. his animosity and his baraa’a from them. The one whose kufr is a type of shirk, he must prevail the Deen in front of them by declaring the tawheed in front of them and to declare for the kufr publically that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah and invite people to follow him. The third type: and whoever’s kufr is to give up the salat is to pray in front of him and command him to do it. And the one whose kufr is alliance to the kufr and abiding by their own commands his Izhar ud-Deen in front of them is to declare animosity to them and the shirk they believe in. in totality a Muslim cant have Izhar ud-Deen (showing his Deen / prevailing his Deen) except if he declares explicitly that he has baraa’a to them and the kufr they believe in, he should declare kufr to what they believe in and the kufr. That’s why the Mushrikeen said to the Prophet’s uncle ‘look what happened, Muhammad defamed our Deen and condemned our dreams and called us foolish and insulted our Gods’ So the Prophet made Izhar ud-Deen in Mecca.

[Younus: 104-106] Say (O Muhammad SAW): “O you mankind! If you are in doubt as to my religion (Islâm), then (know that) I will never worship those whom you worship, besides Allâh. But I worship Allâh Who causes you to die, I am commanded to be one of the believers. “And (it is inspired to me): Rise your face (O Muhammad SAW) entirely towards the religion Hanifa (Islâmic Monotheism, i.e. to worship none but Allâh Alone), and never be one of the Mushrikûn (those who ascribe partners to Allâh, polytheists, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh, and those who worship others along with Allâh). “And invoke/ask not besides Allâh, any that will neither profit you, nor hurt you, but if (in case) you did so, you shall certainly be one of the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers).[]”

In this ayah Allah is saying to the people if you have doubt about the Deen I believe in then I have baraa’a from your Deen, those who are your friends and alliance (also in Al-Kaafiroun)

Abyssinia example – the Prophet would never ask them to go there if they could not prevail the deen, which they did with Jafar Bin Abi Talib

Khalid Bin Waleed when he reached the people of Yamaamah, he came with 200 fighters and said to them, go and take the people and whoever you meet take them, and among them was Mujaa’ah and he had 23 men from his people. He said ‘Ya Khalid, you know I came to visit the Messenger Muhammad (saw) and gave my allegiance and I am on the same as that today and if one liar rises like Musaylamah, you cannot count mistakes of others on me [An’am: 164]. Khalid said ‘O Mujaa’ah you gave up today what you used to believe in the past and were satisfied with that liar and were silent about him and you are the most noble man among the people of Yamaamah and you knew I was coming and yet you did not come out and speak to me, you know I am coming to attack him and your silence is consent to him, why not speak out the way others did speak against him and they e.g. Al-Yaqshari etc… and they attacked him and labelled him, and if you say you have fear why not send us someone to tell us?’ He said ‘Khalid is son of Waleed what about if you forgive all of this?’ [he wanted to be free] he said ‘Between killing you and freeing you is to keep you in prison, I will forgive you and wont kill you, I have in my nafs a big problem, you will stay in prison until Allah shows us a way out’

This shows us that the one who lives among the kuffar without to prevail his Deen

And when some people said that we should not declare animosity, we must attack the ideas even if we do not attack them because of the covenant of security.

Sheikh Hamad Bin Ateeq said ‘If a man was living among kuffar, he must prevail the deen until the people of kuffar make baraa’a from him’

That is the level you must prevail the Deen and he must declare that they are kuffar otherwise he can’t count that he prevailed with his Deen’

Some people say we can’t do this because we are weak. Mas’alah tul izhar ud-deen was the first topic,

Now for another topic Mas’alah tul istidhaaf i.e. being weak. Allah tells us about this:

[4: 75] And what is wrong with you that you fight not in the Cause of Allâh, and for those weak, ill-treated and oppressed among men, women, and children, whose cry is: “Our Lord! Rescue us from this town whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from You one who will protect, and raise for us from You one who will help.”

Allah (SWT) in this ayah explains that they did not live among the kaafir and Mushrikeen by their own choice so they appeal to Allah to find them a way out so they have excuses, see [4: 98]. They said clearly that the people of this city are kaafir and to ask Allah for supporters against them with whom they are living and the excuses and permits, Allah says: Except the weak ones among men, women and children who cannot devise a plan, nor are they able to direct their way [4: 98]

This ayah describes their situation, no document etc…

Ibn Katheer said ‘they are not capable of running from the Mushrikeen and if they come out in the night they wont be able to reach anywhere’

Ikrimah ‘they can’t smuggle their way out to madina’

So in summary the weak people who are not capable to leave the Mushrikeen, but now people can all the way to Hajj and Iraq etc…

[4: 99] For these there is hope that Allâh will forgive them, and Allâh is Ever Oft Pardoning, Oft-Forgiving.

But those capable to leave from the Mushrikeen but did not leave because attached to the dunya, Allah does not give him excuses but calls him dhalim to himself. As Allah (SWT) says:

[4: 97] Verily! As for those whom the angels take (in death) while they are wronging themselves (as they stayed among the disbelievers even though emigration was obligatory for them), they (angels) say (to them): “In what (condition) were you?” They reply: “We were weak and oppressed on earth.” They (angels) say: “Was not the earth of Allâh spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?” Such men will find their abode in Hell – What an evil destination

Nowadays people can go everywhere but can’t carry Daw’ah. They will say we are weak, is not the earth wide enough to make Hijrah, those people’s residence will be in hellfire.

Tafseer of Qurtubi and Ibn katheer: ‘You did injustice by living among the Mushrikeen, this ayah is so general, if he is capable to do Hijrah and not capable to prevail his Deen’ i.e. What made you sit here doing nothing and even giving up making Hijrah. And Abu Daoud reported a Marfou hadeeth that Sumrah Ibn Jundub said ‘The one who accompanies Mushrik and lives with him is like him’ when Nawfal was arrested the Messenger said to Abbas (to his uncle) when he asked everyone to pay ransom to be freed, this is clear that he took his own uncle in captivity, his uncle said ‘did we not pray to your own qiblah and testify the shahadah’ he said ‘you came out with them and were defeated’ meaning this argument defeats your argument, then he quoted the ayah about ‘is the earth not wide enough’ [Ibn Abi Haatim reported this]

If you live among the Mushrikeen the only excuse you have is to carry the Deen to them openly and publically else you must make Hijrah, if you cant do this or travel you keep praying to Allah to arrange for you to leave this land and seek help against them and seek forgiveness from Allah, that’s if you have an excuse.

[3: 28] Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Auliyâ (supporters, helpers, etc.) instead of the believers, and whoever does that will never be helped by Allâh in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them. And Allâh warns you against Himself (His Punishment)[], and to Allâh is the final return.

This is in relation to someone under duress, see also [Nahl: 106] about Amar Bin Yasir ‘Whoever disbelieved in Allâh after his belief, except him who is forced thereto and whose heart is at rest with Faith but such as open their breasts to disbelief, on them is wrath from Allâh, and theirs will be a great torment’

We can’t be satisfied with the kufr even under duress. So what is Taqiyyah – how is it? To silent and not to speak lies if you are under duress, can’t just say ‘new law of terrorism’ – this means to do what we are capable of doing.

Taqiyyah is the weakest form of Imaan [Ahmed: no. 49] ‘Whoever sees evil amongst you let him change it with his hand, if he cant with his tongue and if he cant let him hate it in his heart and that is the least of Imaan’

Amount of his deen he can prevail he must and be silent of what he must. He can be like the believers among the kuffar like the wife of Pharoah who never attacked with their tongue but hid their Imaan and never showed any sign of Kufr. This is the difference between the Munaafiq and the Mukrah i.e. the one under duress. That’s why the Shia Raafidha are like the munafiqeen. Because the duress does not happen to everyone but some under oppression and doing their best to build up some people.

What about those who hide their Imaan among the kuffar, behave like them and help them and support them. Allah only made two camps:

[Taghabun: 2] ‘He is the one who created you, among you are kuffar or believers’

Hadeeth: ‘A Muslim does not inherit from the kaafir and a Kaafir does not inherit from a Muslim’ [Bukhari 6383]

And in the time of the Messenger Muhammad (saw) someone came to follow and fight with them, the Prophet asked ‘Are you a believer in Allah and his Messenger?’ He said no, so the Prophet said ‘I will never seek help from a Mushrik’ he came another three times and the battle continued and the Prophet said the same to go back, ‘I can’t seek help from you’

You can see how many people are jahil in the Aqeedah of ahl us-Sunnah wal Jammah. The man came again 4th time and said again to come out with him, the Prophet asked him again if he believed and he said ‘Yes’ so he said ‘Now you can go’ [Muslim 1817]

[9: 71] The believers, men and women, are Auliyâ’ (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma’rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm orders one to do), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. polytheism and disbelief of all kinds, and all that Islâm has forbidden); they perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât) and give the Zakât, and obey Allâh and His Messenger. Allâh will have His Mercy on them. Surely Allâh is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

[Anfal ;73] And those who disbelieve are allies to one another, (and) if you (Muslims of the whole world collectively) do not do so (i.e. become allies, as one united block with one Khalifah – chief Muslim ruler for the whole Muslim world to make victorious Allâh’s Religion of Islâmic Monotheism), there will be Fitnah (wars, battles, polytheism, etc.) and oppression on earth, and a great mischief and corruption (appearance of polytheism

[5: 51] O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliyâ’ (friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), they are but Auliyâ’ to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliyâ’, then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allâh guides not those people who are the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust).

Whoever comes out of Kufr he enters Imaan and vice versa. Hence the Prophet said there cant be two deens in the Arabian peninsula.

EXCEPT HE WHO IS FORCED

The word “Ikrah” means “force, coercion, compulsion etc.” and “Mukrah,” which comes from the word “ikrah,” literally means “one who is forced.”

Allaah says:

“Whoever disbelieved in Allaah after his belief, except him who is forced thereto and whose heart is at rest with Faith but such as open their breasts to disbelief, on them is wrath from Allaah, and theirs will be a great torment. That is because they loved and preferred the life of this world over that of the Hereafter. And Allaah guides not the people who disbelieve.” [an-Nahl 16:106-107]

ibn Abbas said: “This verse was revealed about ‘Ammar ibn Yasir. The idolaters had taken him away along with his father Yasir, his mother Sumayyah, Suhayb [al-Rumi], Bilal [ibn Rabah], Khabbab [ibn al-Aratt] and Salim [the client of Hudhayfah] and tortured them. As for Sumayyah, she was tied up between two camels and stabbed with a spear in her female organ. She was told: ‘You embraced Islam for the men’, and was then killed. Her husband Yasir was also killed. They were the first two persons who were killed in Islam. As for ‘Ammar, he was coerced to let them hear what they wanted to hear. Rasoolullaah, saAllaahu alayhi wa salam, was told that ‘Ammar has renounced faith, but he said: ‘Never, ‘Ammar is filled with faith from his head to his toes; faith is admixed with his flesh and blood!’ ‘Ammar then went to see the Rasoolullaah, saAllaahu alayhi wa salam, crying. Rasoolullaah, saAllaahu alayhi wa salam, wiped his tears with his own hand and said: ‘if they return to you, let them hear again what you told them.’ Then, Allaah, exalted is He, revealed this verse”.

Imaam Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab said regarding these verses:
“So Allaah didn’t excuse anyone except the Mukrah whose heart is firm upon Imaan and Tawhid.  And it’s known by necessity that it’s impossible to coerce someone to change his beliefs; but it’s possible to change his speech and actions.  So this verse has clarified that whoever utters a word of kufr, or does an action of kufr, then he has indeed become a kaafir with the exclusion of the Mukrah who is firm upon Tawhid in his heart.  And as mentioned in the verse, he becomes a kaafir because he preferred the worldly life, not because he changed his beliefs.” (Tarikh ibn Ghannam)

Imaam Sulayman ibn Abdullaah stated in his book “ad-Dala’il Fi Hukm Muwalat Ahlul-Ishrak” under the ‘Fourteenth Evidence’ commenting on these verses of an-Nahl 106-107:

“So He (Allaah) has made a judgment that is unchangeable- That whosoever turns back from his deen to kufr, then he is a kaafir. Regardless of whether he had the excuse of khawf (fear) for his life, wealth, family, or not; and whether he committed kufr both internally (with his heart) and externally (through actions), or only externally and not internally (i.e. only through actions, without the heart); and whether he committed kufr through his actions and his speech, or with just one of the two and not the other; and whether or not he committed kufr because of his desire to attain some worldly benefit from the mushrik; he becomes a kafir in each and every situation – except for the Mukrah. And he is the ‘Maghsub’ in our language. (Derived from “Ghasaba Yaghsibu”- which implies the meanings of “coerce, compel, force, extort, seize unlawfully, conquer, subdue, rape, etc.” And Maghsub is the one who is “coerced, compelled, forced, subdued, etc.” According to classical linguists: “Someone who is forced to do something he dislikes by means of subjugation and compulsion.” See Lisan Al-‘Arab 3/526, and Al-Misbah Al- Munir 2/729)

So if a person is forced to do kufr; and it is said to him ‘Commit kufr! Or else we shall kill you- or we will torture you’; or the mushrik take him and beat him (severely) – and it is not possible for him to be rid (of this torment) except by agreeing with them; then it is permissible for him to agree with them externally (through actions or speech) – with the condition that his heart rests upon Imaan – meaning firmly established upon it and believing in it. But as for him agreeing with them with his heart, then he is a kaafir- even if he is a Mukrah.

And what is apparent from the words of Imaam Ahmad, is that in the first situation, he would not be a Mukrah- unless the mushrik had tortured him. Because when Yahya Ibn Ma’een entered upon him while he was ill, he (Yahya) greeted him with Salaam but he (Imaam Ahmad) did not return his Salaam. So Yahya began to appeal to him saying: “The hadeeth of ‘Ammar (O Ahmad)! And Allaah said ‘excluding he who is forced thereto while his heart is at rest with Imaan’.” So Ahmad turned his face to the other side; so Yahya exclaimed, ‘He does not accept an excuse?!’ So when Yahya was leaving, Imaam Ahmad said, ‘He uses the hadeeth of Ammar as proof, and the hadeeth of Ammar is ‘I passed by them (the mushrik) while they were insulting you (O Rasoolullaah) – so I forbid them (to say such things), so then they tortured me…’ And you, it is said to you ‘We want to torture you’.” (Meaning that ‘Ammar was actually tortured, and Imaam Ahmad was saying that they themselves were not in that condition yet, but rather were merely being threatened. So mere threats are not a valid Ikrah which would permit kufr.) So Yahya said, “I swear by Allaah! I have not seen anyone under the surface of the sky of Allah who understands the deen of Allaah better than you.’ (Ibn Abu Ya’la in his At-Tabaqat 1/404, and Ibn Al-Jawzi in Manaqib Al-Imaam Ahmad on the authority of Abu Bakr Al-Marwathi 474)

Then He informed that those murtad, who opened their hearts to kufr, even though they are sure of the haqq; and that they said ‘We did not do this except because of khawf’- but still ‘on them is wrath from Allaah, and theirs will be a great torment.’

Then He informed that the reason for this kufr and eternal punishment – is not because they believed in shirk; nor because of ignorance about tawhid; nor because of hatred for the deen; nor because of love for kufr- rather, the reason is merely because of a bit from the bits of the dunya (worldly life), which he preferred above the deen and the pleasure of the Lord of the Worlds.

So He said,

“That is because they loved and preferred the life of this world over that of the Hereafter. And Allah does not guide the kafir. (Al-Nahl 16:107-109)

So He has made takfir of them. And He informed that He will not guide them, even though they try to excuse themselves with the plea that they (only did it out of) lust for the dunya.

Then He informed that these are murtad, because they preferred the life of the dunya rather than the akhirah; they are the ones whose hearts, hearing, and sight Allah has sealed, and that they are the oblivious ones; then He informed (us of their) confirmed reality:

‘That in the Hereafter, they will be the losers.’ (An-Nahl 16:109)

7 CONDITIONS OF THE SHAHADAH

The Islamic declaration of faith, “La ilaha illallah,” has several conditions that are often elaborated upon by scholars. While interpretations can vary, some common conditions include:

1. **Knowledge (Ilm)**: A person must have knowledge and understanding of the meaning of the phrase and its implications.

2. **Certainty (Yaqeen)**: The individual must have a strong conviction and belief in the truth of the declaration.

3. **Sincerity (Ikhlas)**: The declaration must be made with pure intentions solely for the sake of Allah, without any ulterior motives.

4. **Acceptance (Qabool)**: The person must fully accept the belief in the oneness of Allah and renounce any form of polytheism or association of partners with Allah.

5. **Submission (Inqiyad)**: The individual should be willing to submit to the teachings and commandments of Allah as outlined in Islam.

6. **Truthfulness (Sidq)**: The declaration should be made truthfully, reflecting the person’s genuine belief and commitment.

7. **Love and Devotion (Mahabbah)**: The person should feel a sincere love and devotion towards Allah, understanding His attributes and qualities.

8. **Rejection of False Deities (Tark al-Taghut)**: The person must reject and abstain from worshipping or following anything or anyone other than Allah, including false gods, idols, or worldly desires.

9. **Obedience and Practice (Amal)**: The individual should strive to live in accordance with the teachings of Islam, practising its rituals and adhering to its ethical guidelines.

These conditions collectively underline the significance and depth of the Islamic declaration of faith, affirming the believer’s unwavering commitment to the oneness of Allah and the teachings of Islam.

THE PRAYER IS A PROOF

Anyone who examines the texts of the Qur’aan and Sunnah will see that they indicate that the one who neglects the prayer is guilty of Kufr Akbar (major kufr) which puts him beyond the pale of Islam.

“But if they repent [by rejecting Shirk (polytheism) and accept Islamic Monotheism], perform As-Salaat (Iqaamat-as-Salaat) and give Zakaat, then they are your brethren in religion.” [al-Tawbah 9:11]

The evidence derived from this aayah is that Allaah defined three things that the Mushrikeen have to do in order to eliminate the differences between them us: they should repent from shirk, they should perform prayer, and they should pay zakaah.

If they repent from shirk but they do not perform the prayer or pay zakaah, then they are not our brethren in faith;

if they perform the prayer but do not pay zakaah, then they are not our brethren in faith.

Brotherhood in religion cannot be effaced except when a person goes out of the religion completely; it cannot be effaced by fisq (immoral conduct) or lesser types of kufr.

And from the Sunnah,

It was narrated that Buraydah ibn al-Husayb (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

“I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: ‘The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is the prayer, and whoever neglects it has disbelieved (become a kaafir).’

So it is clear that the person who neglects the prayer with no excuse is a kaafir who is beyond the pale of Islam, on the basis of this evidence.

This is the correct view according to Imaam Ahmad, and it is one of the two opinions narrated from al-Shaafa’i, as was mentioned by Ibn Katheer in his tafseer of the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“Then, there has succeeded them a posterity who have given up As-Salaat (the prayers) [i.e. made their Salaat (prayers) to be lost, either by not offering them or by not offering them perfectly or by not offering them in their proper fixed times] and have followed lusts” [Maryam 19:59]

So my dear brother and sister, do not leave off the PRAYER!

Tawhid al-Hakimiyyah | BIDAH?

Tawhid al-Hakimiyyah | BIDAH? Is it allowed for us to say tawhid is divided into four and include the tawhid of hakimiyyah – meaning, to single out Allah with rule/judgment?

The concern with the tawhid of hakimiyyah and singling it with mention did not exist except in the last centuries, it being the thirteenth-century hijri. It was only singled out when man-made laws were established; thus some spoke about it and that rule belongs solely to Allah, even though its beginnings appeared in the time of ibn Taymiyyah and ibn Kathir regarding the Yasiq of the Tatar.

We say here that there are some who have a particular position concerning whoever speaks about the tawhid of hakimiyyah based on criticism of a particular movement (the Sahwah movement) or based on specific occurrences, none of which is based on looking at the issue from a scientific lens.

Thus verdicts were passed declaring whoever singles out hakimiyyah as a type of tawhid as an innovator. But the correct view is that there isn’t an issue adding the tawhid of hakimiyyah. It’s not said he is an innovator and declaring him one for this is a mistake. There are those who divided tawhid into two categories, then came those who divided it into three; he would be an innovator according to that view. There are also some people of knowledge that divided tawhid into five categories, adding the tawhid of following. Is he an innovator as well? The rule (qa’idah) is that there is no problem with terminology if it is correct. If reality requires highlighting and paying attention to a certain tawhid and making it an independent category, even if it is within the categories before it, there is no objection; and there are many parallels for that.

Hakimiyyah enters into the tawhid of asma and sifat, based on the name al-Hakam as in the hadith: “Verily, Allah is the judge and the rule belongs to Him.” And it is based on the effects, i.e., one of the meanings of rububiyyah: the act of ordering and forbidding. Where is the bid’ah in that? The one who declared another an innovator for this is either a mistaken mujtahid, and this is said about those known for being honest, or a misguided jahil or one trying to patch up rulers that substituted the law of Allah and a trumpet for them. We say here as well that from the people of knowledge are those that made the conditions of ‘la ilaha illallah’ to be seven. While some of them extracted eight and mentioned the condition of kufr in the taghut, although it is present within the seven conditions.

However, due to its importance, it was separated from the condition of love and made independent. Are they innovators? Similar to this is the issue of iman. Some of the Salaf made it two statements: statements (qawl) and action (‘amal). But when people of innovation appeared and began to speak, some of them said it is: qawl, ‘amal, and belief (i’tiqad). And when the Murjiah spoke concerning action, the Salaf said iman is: i’tiqad, qawl, and acting on the pillars (‘amal bil-arkan).

Thus they included the word ‘arkan’ to clarify. And some made it: qawl, ‘amal, i’tiqad, and intention (niyyah). And some of included: following (itba’). All of the foregone is correct. Each that required clarification or importance the Salaf increased by that amount. They are not invented additions, as they were present and contained in the speech of those who preceded in general. Based on the rule of some people, whoever added to the two words concerning iman is an innovator. Source: Al-Wasit fi Sharh Awwal Risalah fi Majmu’ah at-Tawhid, pp. 27-8. We learn from the Quran the evil traits of Pharaoh, he was able to control and seize every part of his peoples lives, to the extent that he claimed Lordship and they, his people did not oppose him in the least, Allah informs us of this incident and the false claim of pharaoh;

“And (he pharaoh) said, “I am your most exalted lord.” (79:24)

Pharaoh made this claim and the people bowed in prostration, they were belittled to afraid to question him so he was able to control them

There is an Arab saying that pharaoh was asked who made you a ‘firawn’ he responded by saying “I made the claim and no one opposed me”

We find today that some Muslims have adopted this humiliation at the hands of their Shuyukh have have sacrificed their Tawhid (monotheism) in the process, they hear and obey, blindly following any order any word and any Fatwah (religious verdict) without hesitation and without Question, why because ‘He’ (the Shaykh) is of a higher stature than me, who am i to question ‘Him’.

yes we are ordered to respect and hold in high esteem the True Ulemah (scholars) of this Ummah, but there can be no blind following of anyone except RasoolAllah (may Allahs peace and blessings be upon him), Allah (swt) commands us in the Quran to ask Ahl-thikr (the people of the remembrance i.e the Scholars) when we do not know

Allah says to the meaning,

“…..So ask the People of the Reminder (Ahl-thikr / أهل الذكر ) if you do not know.” (Qur’an 16:43)

but he does not order so without proof and explanation, Allah follows the above ayah with his saying to the meaning;

“With clear signs and Books (We sent the Messengers). And We have also sent down unto you (O Muhammad SAW) the reminder and the advice (the Quran), that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought” (16:44)

I wonder today if the “Shuyukh” or “Muslim Leaders” of today were to say, “worship me” how many will oppose them?

now for some this may be far fetched, i mean who in their right mind would firstly ask people to do such an action and who with half a brain would even submit to such a request and commit disbelief by worshipping and bowing to his Shaykh or Leader, by this time your thinking the guy who wrote this is nuts! but im not so please wait till the end before you turn away.

Some people unfortunately have already taken their religious leaders as “Gods besides Allah” and have been in the service of their worship?

allow me to explain.

One day the Prophet (saw) was sitting with his Sahabah when a man named ‘Adi ibn Hattim (ra) who later became a Muslim approached the Prophet (saw) while wearing a silver cross the story is as follows,

Imam Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Jarir At-Tabari recorded a Hadith via several chains of narration, from ‘Adi bin Hatim (RA), who became a Christian during the time of Jahiliyya (ignorance). When the call of the Messenger of Allah reached his area, ‘Adi ran away to Ash-Sham, and his sister and several of his people were captured.

The Messenger of Allah freed his sister and gave her gifts.
So she went to her brother and encouraged him to become Muslim and to go to the Messenger of Allah.

‘Adi, who was one of the chiefs of his people (the tribe of Tai’) and whose father, Hatim At-Ta’i, was known for his generosity, so he headed for Al-Madinah.

When the people announced his arrival, ‘Adi went to the Messenger of Allah wearing a silver cross around his neck.

The Messenger of Allah recited this Ayah;
“They took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allah” (9:31)

‘Adi commented, “They did not worship them.”

The Prophet (saw) said, “Yes they did. They the rabbis and monks prohibited the allowed for them (Christians and Jews) and allowed the prohibited, and they obeyed them, This is how they worshiped them”

We learn here from this story and the response of the Prophet of Allah of which is found in Tafsir Ibn Kathir, that by obeying their Rabbis and their Monks in things that Allah had made permissible to be impermissible or things which Allah made impermissible to be permissible was in fact their taking as Lords/Gods in worship them besides Allah

The shirk (ascribing partners to Allah) here was committed without the religious figure proclaiming Lordship or the need of them saying “im your Lord, worship me” nor was a single prostration committed by the follower, this disbelief was that of obedience so take heed

Dear reader this article should not be taken as an attack on our religious figures or as a tool to be used to seperate from them but rather it should be taken as a stern warning that it is possible to take religious figures as Gods besides Allah breaching your Tawhid (monotheism) without the need of any prostration

At the same time there is no harm in asking for proof from the Quran and Sunnah as understood by the Sahabah on any Islamic verdicts presented to you.

and this is something encouraged

finally, Do not risk you Akhirah (hereafter) by being a blind follower never question nor asking for clarification backed by truth and any matters related to your Deen, remember everyone on the day of Judgement will be saying “myself, myself” so dont get yourself caught all alone when all you had to do was ask for the Daleel (proof).

and Allah knows best

DO I NEED TO FOLLOW THE SAHABAH?

Rabee‘ ibn Sulaymaan (a companion of Imam Ash-Shafi‘ee) said:

‘We were with Ash-Shafi‘ee one day when an old man wearing garments of wool came to us with a walking stick in his hand.

Ash-Shafi‘ee stood up, fixed his clothes and greeted the old man. He sat down and Ash-Shafi‘ee began looking at him in admiration when the man said:

Old man: Can I ask?
Ash-Shafi‘ee: Ask.
Old man: What is the Hujjah (definitive proof) in the religion of Allah?
Ash-Shafi‘ee: The Book of Allah.
Old man: What else?
Ash-Shafi‘ee: The Sunnah (the way) of the Messenger of Allah (may the Peace and Blessing of Allah be upon him).
Old man: What else?
Ash-Shafi‘ee: The consensus of the Jama’ah (i.e. ijmaah of the Sahabah)
Old man: Where did you get ‘consensus of the Jama’ah from? (i.e. what is your evidence).

Ash-Shafi‘ee pondered for a moment when the old man said that.
Old man: I will leave you for 3 days. If you come up with evidence from the Book of Allah, fine. If not, then repent to Allah.

Ash-Shafi‘ee’s face changed colour and then he left.

He didn’t come out until the third day, between dhuhr and ‘Asr. His face, hands and legs had swollen and he became ill.

He sat down but it was only a short while when the old man returned.
He greeted him and sat down then he said,

Old man: Do you have what I asked for?

Ash-Shafi‘ee: Yes.

I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the outcast. Allah, the Most High said:”And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follows other than the way of the believers, We shall keep him on the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell and what an evil destination. [Surah An-Nisaa’ 4:115]”

And He (Allah the Mighty and the Majestic) will not burn him in Hell for opposing the believers in something except that it is something obligatory.

Old man: You have told the truth. Then he got up and left.

Ash-Shafi‘ee then said to those around him:
“I read the Qur’an 3 times every day (in the 3 days he was given),
until I came to this verse.”

BUT MY SHAYKH SAID

Today people attach their very existence to fulan ibn fulan, the words of the shaykh and the Quran is forgotten

A man once went to ‘Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab and said,
“O Leader of the Believers, when we conquered Al-Madaain, we found a book that contained in it beautiful speech.”

‘Umar asked him,
“Was that speech from the Book of Allaah?”
The man replied, “No.”

Then ‘Umar asked someone to hand him a stick, after which he proceeded to beat the man, and all the while he (ra) was reciting the saying of Allaah:

“Alif-Laam-Ra. These are the Verses of the Clear Book. Verily, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an in order that you may understand. We relate unto you (Muhammad) the best of stories through Our Revelations unto you, of this Qur’an. And before this (i.e. before the coming of Divine Inspiration to you), you were among those who knew nothing about it (the Qur’an).” [12:1-3]

‘Umar then said,
“Verily, what destroyed those who came before you was the fact that they took themselves to the books of their scholars and priests, while they abandoned the Torah and the Injeel (Gospel). And they continued to do that until the Torah and the Injeel became obliterated, and the knowledge that they contained went away.”

[Manaaqib ‘Umar, by Ibn Al-Jawzee, p. 23]
